Supplier Spotlight - British Premium Meats - Interview with Head of Sales Weston Wright.
For this month’s Supplier Spotlight, we shine a light on Hertfordshire-based company British Premium Meats.
Family run since 1986, with a reputation for excellent service and quality products.
Weston Wright, their Head of Sales was kind enough to take a few moments out of his busy schedule for us.
How long have you been supplying Houston & Hawkes?
Since the business started around 4 or 5 years ago. We’ve been there right from the beginning.
What would you say is the British Premium Meats ethos?
We aim to be the best meat and poultry supplier there is. Offering an unrivalled delivery service and work with people to find solutions to everyday problems.
What was your biggest challenge over the pandemic?
Keeping our heads above water whilst seeing a downturn in business of around 85%.
How important to you is the relationship between supplier and client?
Our customers are very important to us and we do not take them for granted. Many of our customers have worked with us for many years. I think this says something about our service levels and fair pricing.
Would you say that client-supplier relationships have changed since the pandemic recovery?
We supported our suppliers by standing by them and many of our customers supported us by doing the same. I don’t believe anything changed between client-supplier relationships, we were all in this together, struggling to do the best thing for our businesses. We realised that lockdowns meant a lot of our customers were “hibernating” until things improved and we understood that they would be back again.
What are your best-selling products this time of year?
English New Season lamb from farms in Kent and Warwickshire.
Lamb is what we do best as a country.
What’s new at British Premium Meats?
Red Tractor Frozen IQF Meat Balls that are also Gluten Free.
What do you think will be the upcoming food trends as we head into the Summer?
Various takes on the concept of BBQ food. Maybe? It will be interesting to see what the public comes up.
What's your personal favourite product from British Premium Meats?
Cumberland Sausages, everyone loves them!
Thank you so much Weston. Now we’re hungry and craving a Cumberland.
