Meet our Superstars - Wes Arnold
Every month we'll introduce a member of the Houston & Hawkes team so you can get to know more about the hospitality superstars within our family.
For this month’s ‘Meet our Superstars’ we head back to our gorgeous new site in Reading to meet its charismatic GM, Wes Arnold.
Q- What has been your career highlight?
A- Having my own social media post about me.
Q- If you weren’t in the hospitality industry, what industry would you be in?
A- You mean there are other industries out there?? No one told me!!
Truth be told, I count myself as one of the lucky ones as I’ve never really had to think about what career path I would take. It’s always been hospitality. As a child when asked by parents or teachers, it was always chef. Never fireman, doctor, superhero, vet etc.
Now, whilst I started in a kitchen a VERY long time ago, I can be no means class myself as a chef and I quickly learned that front of house was where I belong.
Q- Who is your biggest inspiration?
A- Whilst I like to think of myself as a poor mans Fred Sirieix, there are so many inspirations in my life. It really comes down to anyone that I can see has a true passion for what they do. I truly believe that some people are destined for certain things and you can see that within them. Those are the people that make me turn up every day.
Q- Where and what is your favourite cooking memory?
A- As a child, at home every Sunday, Mum used to make a Victoria sponge. I’m not even sure I would help, but it’s something that will remain with me forever. I’ve not had one for years, but when asked this question I didn’t even need to think about it.
Q- What’s your kitchen appliance you can’t live without?
A- Coffee machine.
Q- What’s your favourite/most used ingredient?
A- Butter. Butter makes it all better, right?
Q- What would you say to other people considering the hospitality industry?
A- Do it. It’s not a second choice or a fall back. The opportunities you can make for yourself are boundless. You can travel the world & never be out of work. You can make people smile and you can learn pretty much all the life skills you will ever need.
With the new site now in full throttle, we were delighted that this month’s Superstar, Wes, could take the time out to answer our questions.
We hope you enjoyed reading his answers as much as we did.
Thank you Wes!
