Meet our Superstars - Rihanna
Every month we'll introduce a member of the Houston & Hawkes team so you can get to know more about the hospitality superstars within our family.
For this month’s feature, we meet Rihanna, a new member of our team and pastry chef at our Grade II listed building in the heart of London.
She was kind enough to take some time away from the mixer to talk to us.
We talk hospitality, comfort food and the advice she would give to her younger self.
Q- If you weren’t in the hospitality industry, what industry would you be in?
A- If I wasn’t in the hospitality industry I would probably be in tech, I have always had an interest in graphic/web design.
Q- Who is your biggest inspiration?
A- I don’t really have a specific person in mind however, it is very inspiring seeing women dominate in the kitchen.
Q- What is your favourite dish to cook?
A- My favourite dish to cook is probably chicken wings. I love creating new flavours and really appreciate the way a simple seasoning/sauce can elevate a chicken wing.
Q- What’s your kitchen appliance you can’t live without?
A- Not an appliance but I can’t live without a good silicone spatula.
Q- What’s your favourite/most used ingredient?
A- Aside from all the butter and sugar I use in my bakes, I would say my favourite ingredient is garlic. I use it in any and every way I can.
Q- What is your guilty pleasure?
A- I love to crotchet. I taught myself just before lockdown and love creating little things out of yarn.
Q- What's your go-to comfort food?
A- A nice rich mac and cheese.
Q- What advice would you give to your younger self?
A- Just go for it. Stay focused. You’re amazing and talented.
Q- What inspired you to join the hospitality industry?
A- I’ve always loved cooking/baking and it just made sense for me to join this industry doing what I love.
