Meet our Superstars - Atike
Every month we'll introduce a member of the Houston & Hawkes team so you can get to know more about the hospitality superstars within our family.
For the third instalment of our ‘Meet Our Superstars’ feature, we head to Reading to talk to a member of our team who makes sure everyone is ready to seize the day; Barista Atike Guler. She kindly took some time out from refuelling our clients to answer a few questions for us.
Q-If you weren’t in the hospitality industry, what industry would you be in?
A.I guess I’d be an accountant or work somewhere in the IT department.
I'm really interested in being around numbers and technology.
I have worked as an accountant in the past for a short period and I had a lot of fun at that time. I don’t think people realise how much fun it can be.
Q-What is your favourite dish to cook?
A-My favourite dish to cook is a roast chicken with some spicy vegetables. It’s so comforting. Especially at this cold time of year.
I also have a lot of fun while making pasta dishes. Mainly because you can change the recipes according to what you feel like eating. My favourite ingredients are mushrooms, and you can’t forget the cheese!
Q-What is your guilty pleasure?
A-When I’m at work, I’m on my feet all day so when I can, I enjoy lying on the couch with my feet up, eating lots of chocolate and jelly beans and drinking plenty of Turkish tea.
Q-When we are allowed to travel without restrictions, what country would you most like to visit?
A-I would absolutely love to visit the Maldives. It’s at the top of my list.I can't wait to see white beaches and the azure ocean. It truly is a beautiful looking location.
I also hear that the coffee is good there.
Q-What’s your kitchen appliance you can’t live without?
A-I simply cannot live with my Turkish teapot, I don’t go a day without drinking Turkish tea!
Which some people may find unusual because of my career.
